"BLINK TWICE" - MOVIE REVIEW /A DARK AND GRIPPING PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER MOVIE
Today we’re diving into the dark and gripping
story of the 2024 psychological thriller "Blink Twice"
– the directorial debut of Zoë Kravitz. The film features a
powerful cast including Naomi Ackie, Channing Tatum, Christian Slater,
Simon Rex, Adria Arjona, Haley Joel Osment, Kyle MacLachlan, Geena Davis,
and Alia Shawkat.
The story begins with Frida,
a talented nail artist who also works as a cocktail waitress. She’s at an
exclusive party with her friend Jess. There, she meets a
famous billionaire tech mogul named Slater King. Slater has
recently stepped down from his company under mysterious circumstances. He’s
charming, powerful, and clearly interested in Frida.
Slater invites both Frida and Jess to join
him and his close group of friends on his private island for a luxury getaway.
They accept, thinking it’s going to be fun.
When they arrive, Slater’s assistant Stacy
takes everyone’s phones for “privacy.” The guests include:
·
Vic, a wild photographer,
·
Cody, a private chef,
·
Tom, a party DJ,
·
Lucas, a shy college graduate.
There are also three more women apart from
Frida and Jess:
·
Sarah, a reality TV star,
·
Camilla, an app developer,
·
Heather, a chill lawyer who loves weed.
Everything looks like a dream: luxury rooms,
expensive perfumes, delicious food, and wild parties. But slowly, things start
to feel… off.
Jess begins noticing gaps in her memory.
Frida keeps seeing strange signs – like all the workers having the same snake
tattoo. One maid even calls her “Red Rabbit” like she knows her.
Slater’s therapist Rich
arrives and is surprised that Frida remembers him from an old party. That
night, while partying, Jess is bitten by a snake and starts to panic. She tells
Frida something’s very wrong and wants to leave.
But Frida feels special – seen for the first
time in her life – and convinces Jess to stay a little longer.
The next day, Jess is missing. When Frida
asks about her, everyone acts like Jess never existed. Even her name is
forgotten.
Frida starts investigating and finds a secret
cottage filled with identical red gift bags. She meets the
same maid again, who gives her snake venom to drink. It
triggers flashbacks in Frida’s mind – she sees disturbing images she can’t
fully understand.
Later, Sarah finds a lighter with “Jess”
engraved on it and starts to doubt her own memory. Frida and Sarah return to
the cottage and discover the truth: the perfume given to them is made from a
local flower that erases memories. The snake venom is the only
cure.
After drinking more venom, Sarah remembers
everything. The women were drugged, manipulated, and sexually abused by the
men. Their memories were wiped after each assault.
Frida and Sarah secretly give the venom to
the other women to help restore their memories. Soon, Camilla and Heather also
remember the trauma. They are furious.
Frida sneaks into Slater’s office and finds
photos of other victims. She learns that this has happened before – a cycle of
abuse, memory loss, and silence.
Worse, she realizes Jess was killed
because the snake bite had already protected her memory, and she wouldn’t
forget the horrors.
Frida and Sarah pretend everything is normal
during dinner but are secretly planning an escape. They distract the men with a
seductive dance. Camilla stabs Tom to death. Heather attacks Vic but is sadly
shot by Stan, Slater’s security guard.
Slater kills Camilla in a rage. Frida fights
Stacy, who refuses to face the truth, and ends up killing her. Sarah kills
Stan, then Cody. The women are fighting back!
Lucas tries to escape but is trapped and
killed. Slater traps Frida inside the burning villa. Here, Frida remembers
everything – she had been to the island a year earlier, was
raped by Slater and his friends, and had her memory wiped. She even bit off
Vic’s pinky finger – a memory that had been suppressed.
Frida tricks Slater by putting the
memory-erasing perfume into his vape pen. He smokes it, forgets everything,
panics when he sees all the dead bodies, and knocks himself out.
Frida and Sarah escape the burning villa. Vic
dies in the fire, but they spare Slater... for now.
Some time later, we see a new twist: Frida is
now married to Slater and has taken over his company as CEO!
She is praised for her leadership, and Slater doesn’t even remember
what happened. When therapist Rich sees him at another party, he’s
confused.
Frida, now in power, orders Rich to be
removed. She smiles, strong and confident – now in control of the man who once
destroyed her life.
"Blink Twice" is a gripping psychological thriller that explores
power, memory, trauma, and revenge. With stunning performances and a shocking
storyline, it keeps you guessing till the very end.
