Gun: Maverick
star Glen Powell looks almost unrecognizable in newly released first-look
photos from his upcoming Hulu series, Chad Powers.
The
36-year-old actor has completely altered his appearance for the role, sporting
scraggly blonde hair, unkempt facial hair, and even adopting a different voice
to embody his character, Russ Holliday—a once-promising football star whose
career collapsed after a disastrous mistake on the field.
The
comedy series, produced by NFL legends Eli and Peyton Manning, follows
Holliday’s wild attempt at redemption. Eight years after his infamous blunder
destroyed his future, Holliday reinvents himself by going undercover as “Chad
Powers”—a quirky, talented oddball who tries to earn a spot on the struggling
South Georgia Catfish football team.
Powell
is joined by an impressive supporting cast, including Steve Zahn, Toby Huss,
Xavier Mills, and Colton Ryan.
The
concept of the series originated from a 2022 sketch in which Eli Manning
disguised himself with prosthetics to attend a Penn State football tryout.
Powell explained how that inspiration shaped the show:
“What
made Eli’s thing so magical is the viewer knew Eli Manning was under [the
disguise]. So, let’s use the lie at the center of this thing, which creates
inherent fun conflict over the course of the series. We were like, ‘OK, we’re
going to Tootsie this thing. Let’s Mrs. Doubtfire it, and let’s
see how far we can take this lie.’”
Chad
Powers is
set to premiere on Hulu on September 30, bringing Powell’s dramatic
transformation—and plenty of laughs—to the screen.
