The
conclusion of Clash in Paris has reignited buzz around a possible WWE
comeback for AJ Lee. The show ended in shocking fashion when Seth Rollins and
his wife, Becky Lynch, attacked CM Punk—Lee’s real-life husband—sparking
speculation that Lee herself could soon return to the squared circle.
Rumors
of AJ Lee’s return have swirled ever since Punk made his pro wrestling comeback
with AEW. According to Fightful Select, WWE’s creative team has pitched
the idea of her return multiple times in recent months. Unlike in the past, WWE
management has reportedly not dismissed these pitches outright. Following
Sunday’s premium live event, Fightful noted that some WWE insiders are
hopeful that the creative discussions could indeed be building toward Lee’s
highly anticipated return. Still, sources caution that nothing has been
finalized.
Interestingly,
WWE is said to be unconcerned about Lee’s long absence from in-ring
competition. Insiders believe she looks nearly identical to when she left WWE
nearly a decade ago. Her marriage to Punk—who also stepped away from wrestling
for years before making his high-profile comeback—has further eased concerns
about ring rust or readiness.
Lee
has had some limited in-ring experience since her retirement. While appearing
in the wrestling drama Heels alongside Punk, she admitted she was
nervous at first but quickly regained her rhythm and comfort in the ring.
Still, Lee has publicly stated on multiple occasions that she has little desire
to wrestle again. Even during her time with WOW: Women of Wrestling,
where she worked as an executive producer, she declined stepping back into the
ring.
Despite
this, several stars from both WWE and AEW have reportedly encouraged Punk to
try convincing his wife to lace up her boots once more. Whether or not those
pleas succeed remains to be seen.
At Clash
in Paris, the night’s main event was a fatal four-way match for the WWE
World Heavyweight Championship. In a shocking twist, a masked Becky Lynch
interfered, hitting Punk with a low blow that allowed Rollins to retain the
title. The moment marked the first time Rollins and Lynch had aligned as an
on-screen duo since 2019—and it left fans buzzing about what role AJ Lee could
play in the fallout.
