Actor
Namashi Chakraborty, the younger son of legendary star Mithun
Chakraborty, has openly spoken about the harsh reality of Bollywood and the
struggles faced by his elder brother, Mimoh Chakraborty. According to
him, the popular belief that Bollywood is like one big family is “the biggest
lie.”
Mimoh
made his debut in 2008 with Raj N. Sippy’s action film Jimmy, but the
movie failed to make an impact. It was only in 2011, with Vikram Bhatt’s
horror hit Haunted – 3D, that Mimoh tasted success. Yet, despite this
breakthrough, his career never really took off the way many expected.
Namashi
explained that the industry does not operate on family bonds but on pure
business:
“The
perception that Bollywood is a family is false. Nobody here is your family.
You’re just a business proposal. If you give business, you’re a star. If you
don’t, you’re not.”
He
also revealed that Mimoh had to make compromises early in his career:
“My
brother had to be launched in a film that wasn’t worthy of his stature because
other projects didn’t take off. Jimmy’s failure had nothing to do with my
father calling producers or pulling strings—it was just bad timing.”
Despite
delivering a hit with Haunted – 3D, Namashi believes the industry still
hesitated to give Mimoh more opportunities:
“Some
star kids have given more flops than my brother, yet they still receive
patronage. Mimoh, on the other hand, is offered selective work. That proves the
industry is not as close-knit as people think.”
Over
the years, Mimoh appeared in films like Loot (2011), the action thriller
Enemmy (2013) alongside his father Mithun Chakraborty, and the 2021
biopic of Mulayam Singh Yadav, where he portrayed Shivpal Singh Yadav. He
also took on supporting roles in Rosh and Jogira Sara Ra Ra (2023)
with Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Recently, Mimoh gained fresh recognition with Neeraj
Pandey’s Netflix series Khakee: The Bengal Chapter.
Namashi,
who made his own acting debut in Rajkumar Santoshi’s 2023 romantic comedy
Bad Boy, shared the one piece of advice Mimoh gave him:
“Be
strong and brave. In this industry, if your film works on Friday, you’re a hit.
If not, you’re useless for others.”
Now,
with Vikram Bhatt’s upcoming sequel Haunted 3D: Ghosts of the Past,
Namashi hopes things will finally change for his elder brother.
