BLOODSUCKING BASTARDS - AMERICAN SLASHER COMEDY HORROR MOVIE REVIEW

Bloodsucking Bastards is a 2015 American comedy horror film directed by Brian James O'Connell and written by Ryan Mitts along with O’Connell’s comedy group Dr. God. The movie features Fran Kranz, Pedro Pascal, Emma Fitzpatrick, and Joey Kern in the lead roles. It was released in limited theaters and through video on demand on September 4, 2015, by Scream Factory.

The movie mixes office comedy with vampire horror, creating a unique workplace satire with bloody twists and plenty of humor.

The film is set in a dull office environment where employees are under constant pressure to meet targets. Evan Sanders, the acting sales manager, is stressed about an upcoming important presentation for the Phallucite account. He shares his worries with his lazy best friend and co-worker, Tim.

Meanwhile, in the break room, Evan has an awkward encounter with Amanda, the head of Human Resources. Amanda once told Evan that she loved him, but he had nervously responded with “no.” This has left their relationship strained.

Things get worse when the branch president, Ted Plunkett, overlooks Evan for a promotion. Instead, Ted hires Max Phillips as the new sales manager. Max went to college with Evan and Tim, but they have a bitter past. Years ago, Max was kicked out of school because Evan reported him after Max slept with Evan’s girlfriend. Now Max takes over Evan’s office and even starts flirting with Amanda.

Strange events start happening in the office. One night, Mike, one of the employees, is killed in the bathroom after work hours. When Evan discovers the body the next morning, it mysteriously vanishes before he can show anyone.

Meanwhile, Max secretly begins turning employees into vampires. The first victim is Dave, who suddenly becomes more aggressive and confident, especially when demanding money from the office betting pool.

Evan tries to stay focused on his presentation and asks Zabeth, a co-worker who has a crush on him, to fetch files from the basement. Unfortunately, Zabeth is attacked and turned into a vampire.

Later, Evan convinces Andrew to work late with him. But when Andrew goes to the basement, he too is attacked by Zabeth. While searching Max’s office, Evan finds disturbing evidence – photos of Amanda and personnel files marked with strange symbols like X’s, circles, and checks. Soon after, Andrew collapses in front of Evan and appears dead. Evan hides in a supply closet, realizing Max is behind all of this. When he tries to warn Amanda over the phone, Max answers instead and mocks him.

The next day, Evan is found by Ted, Tim, and Max. Suddenly, Andrew reappears – but now as a vampire. Shockingly, Andrew delivers the Phallucite presentation perfectly, earning praise from the bosses. Evan is scolded for not finishing it himself, but strangely, Max defends him, ensuring Evan keeps his job.

Evan tries to convince Tim that vampires have invaded the office. At first, Tim doubts him, but soon he admits that he has seen strange things too – including Max turning the assistant Elaine into a vampire. Amanda, however, refuses to believe them.

Desperate, Evan and Tim approach the office security guard, Frank, for help. Frank confirms he has also witnessed vampire activity. Together, the three men arm themselves with weapons from Frank’s car, only to find it robbed. Suddenly, the Janitor reveals himself to be a vampire and attacks. Frank fights back and kills him by staking his heart.

When they return to the office, they discover all the employees are now vampires – but strangely, they are more productive than ever. Ted admits he approved Max’s plan because vampire employees perform better. However, Evan exposes Max’s real intention – to eventually kill Ted. Before Ted can react, Max snaps his neck.

Now Evan, Tim, and Frank face off against the vampire-filled office. Using makeshift weapons like office supplies, they battle Max, Andrew, and the other vampires. Amanda is dragged into the chaos as well.

After a bloody fight, most of the vampires are destroyed. But Max calls in his “legal team,” who are also vampires, as reinforcements. In the middle of the battle, Andrew kills vampire Dave simply because he never liked him. Soon, Andrew and Tim argue over how their final confrontation should play out.

Sadly, Frank is killed while fighting the vampire lawyers. Meanwhile, Max lures Amanda into Ted’s office, intending to turn her. Evan rushes in, and together with Amanda, they finally manage to kill Max.

With Max defeated, the nightmare finally ends. Covered in blood, Evan and Amanda share a passionate kiss. Tim finds them and the three calmly walk out of the office into the daylight.

However, in a final twist, the cleaning lady arrives to tidy up the gory mess – only to be bitten and turned into a vampire by Andrew, who somehow survived.

Bloodsucking Bastards is not just a horror film – it is also a satire of corporate culture. It cleverly mixes office politics with vampire mythology, making it both funny and bloody. The performances of Fran Kranz as the unlucky Evan and Pedro Pascal as the charming but evil Max stand out. The film also balances comedy, gore, and workplace humor, making it entertaining for fans of horror-comedies.

Though it may not be a big-budget film, it has become a cult favorite for those who enjoy dark humor mixed with supernatural horror.
