"LOVE HURTS" - MOVIE REVIEW / ACTION COMEDY FILM

"Love Hurts" is an action-comedy film that signifies a pivotal moment in Oscar-winning actor Ke Huy Quan's career, marking his first major leading role. Known for his performances in "Everything Everywhere All at Once" and "Loki," Quan portrays Marvin Gable, a seemingly ordinary realtor whose quiet suburban life in Milwaukee is thrown into disarray by the reemergence of his past. The recently released trailer, put out by Universal Pictures, showcases Marvin as a well-liked realtor whose calm existence is shattered when he receives a crimson envelope from Rose, a character played by fellow Oscar winner Ariana DeBose. Rose is Marvin’s former partner-in-crime, presumed dead, her unexpected return reigniting a perilous chapter in Marvin's life.

As the narrative unfolds, Marvin faces challenges posed by ruthless hitmen, double-crosses, and confrontations during open houses. Additionally, the looming threat of his volatile crime lord brother, Knuckles, portrayed by Daniel Wu, forces Marvin to confront the choices and secrets he has long buried. Directed by JoJo Eusebio, a veteran stunt coordinator, the film promises thrilling action sequences that highlight Quan's martial arts skills.

The diverse cast includes notable names like former NFL running back Marshawn "Beast Mode" Lynch, Mustafa Shakir, and Sean Astin. While the film's trailer reveals exciting fight sequences infused with humor, early reviews have noted some mixed responses, mentioning a lack of directorial clarity and issues with character development. However, Quan’s performance stands out as a pivotal element, blending action with emotional depth. Set to release on February 7, 2025, just in time for Valentine's Day, "Love Hurts" encapsulates the theme of confronting one’s past, tantalizing audiences with a mix of action, comedy, and drama as they await its arrival in theaters.
