"LAST BREATH" - MOVIE TEASER REVIEW / A SURVIVAL THRILLER MOVIE

 

"Last Breath" is an upcoming survival thriller that immerses viewers in the treacherous realm of deep-sea diving, based on a true story that showcases human resilience and teamwork. Directed by Alex Parkinson, who co-directed a documentary of the same title in 2019, the film is set to premiere in theaters on February 28, 2025. The plot revolves around a team of saturation divers tasked with the maintenance of underwater gas lines in the North Sea, featuring a skilled cast that includes Woody Harrelson as Duncan Alcock, Simu Liu as David Yuasa, and Finn Cole as Chris Lemons.

 

The narrative escalates during a seemingly routine mission when Lemons and Yuasa exit their diving bell to perform maintenance tasks, while Alcock remains aboard to oversee operations. A critical malfunction in the ship's Dynamic Positioning System (DPS) causes the vessel to drift, leading to chaos. The situation becomes dire when Lemons becomes ensnared in an underwater manifold, resulting in a severed umbilical line that leaves him stranded and without oxygen, hundreds of feet below the ocean's surface, exacerbating the sense of urgency and elevated stakes.

 

The film is produced by Longshot Films and Dark Castle Entertainment, with distribution handled by Focus Features in various territories, including the U.S., France, and China. An official trailer released by Focus Features showcases the claustrophobic tension and escalating crisis faced by the divers, illustrating their fight against isolation and peril amid the vast expanse of the sea. Early critical reception is positive, with a 77% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 91% audience score, praising the film’s gripping narrative and the compelling performances, particularly Harrelson’s portrayal of Alcock.

 

Principal photography occurred in Malta from May to July 2023, aiming to authentically depict the harsh realities of deep-sea diving. "Last Breath" is anticipated to be a thrilling addition to the survival genre, promising viewers a heart-pounding cinematic experience that highlights determination and the unbreakable human spirit in the face of life-threatening challenges.
