Night Teeth is a gripping American vampire thriller directed by Adam Randall, with a screenplay by Brent Dillon. The film stars Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Debby Ryan, Lucy Fry, Raul Castillo, Sydney Sweeney, Megan Fox, and Alfie Allen. Released on October 20, 2021, on Netflix, the film received mixed reviews but is notable for its stylish visuals, intriguing lore, and modern take on vampire mythology.
The story begins by revealing that vampires and humans have co-existed peacefully for centuries under a strict truce. Vampires feed only by consent, and a human council ensures this delicate balance is maintained. However, this fragile peace is threatened by Victor, (Alfie Allen), a wealthy vampire lord disillusioned with his immortal existence. Victor devises a plan to upend the system, eliminate rival vampire lords, and seize control of the city. His actions, including kidnapping the girlfriend of Jay, (Raul Castillo), a member of the human council, ignite a deadly conflict.
Meanwhile, Benny, (Jorge Lendeborg Jr.), a carefree and unsuspecting freelance chauffeur, steps into his brother Jay’s shoes for the night, unaware of the dangers that await him. Benny is hired by two enigmatic friends, Blaire, (Debby Ryan) and Zoe, (Lucy Fry), to drive them to several trendy Los Angeles nightclubs. Unbeknownst to Benny, Blaire and Zoe are vampires working for Victor, tasked with creating chaos to distract the human council and vampire hunters from Victor’s coup.
As the night unfolds, Benny begins to sense something unusual about his passengers. His suspicions are confirmed when he discovers a hotel they visit is a feeding ground for vampires. Realizing the girls’ true nature, Benny confronts them, only to be threatened with his life. Despite this, Blaire and Zoe spare him, intent on using him as a pawn to locate Jay.
Victor's machinations escalate, as he begins targeting vampire lords across Greater Los Angeles, consolidating his power. At the same time, Jay and his allies intensify their efforts to hunt down vampires, setting the stage for an all-out war. Benny becomes further entangled in this conflict when he aids Blaire and Zoe after they are ambushed by vampire hunters. In a surprising turn, Benny allows the vampires to hide in his home, forging a tenuous bond with Blaire, who begins to show signs of developing feelings for him.
The stakes are raised when Benny learns that Victor has captured Jay after a failed attempt to confront the vampire lord. Determined to save his brother, Benny refuses to abandon his mission despite Blaire’s warnings. The journey leads him to Victor’s mansion, where he uncovers a horrifying truth: Victor has imprisoned several humans, including Jay, as "blood bags" to sustain his power. Benny’s attempt to free his brother results in his capture by Victor and Zoe.
As tensions come to a head, Blaire turns against Victor and Zoe, her affection for Benny compelling her to betray her allies. In the ensuing confrontation, Zoe stabs Blaire, but Benny uses his wits to gain the upper hand. He remotely activates Jay’s car, causing it to crash through a window and expose sunlight, killing Zoe. Victor retaliates by using Jay as bait, ultimately biting Benny during their fight. However, Jay manages to push Victor into sunlight, ending his reign of terror.
The battle comes at a cost—Benny begins to transform into a vampire, his fate forever altered. Despite this, Jay chooses to embrace his role as a vampire hunter and vows to continue protecting the city. He also expects Benny to stand by his side when chaos inevitably returns. In a bittersweet farewell, the brothers part ways, each heading down their respective paths.
The film concludes with a romantic twist as Benny reconnects with Blaire, now free from Victor’s influence. The two embark on a night out together, hinting at a new beginning amidst the lingering shadows of the vampire underworld.
Night Teeth effectively combines stylish visuals, fast-paced action, and a fresh take on vampire lore. Jorge Lendeborg Jr. delivers a relatable performance as Benny, capturing his transformation from an unsuspecting chauffeur to a pivotal player in a supernatural conflict. Debby Ryan and Lucy Fry shine as Blaire and Zoe, with Ryan’s nuanced portrayal of Blaire adding emotional depth to the narrative.
Victor, played by Alfie Allen, serves as a compelling antagonist, embodying the greed and ambition that disrupts the fragile peace between vampires and humans. The film’s urban setting, pulsating soundtrack, and neon-lit visuals enhance its modern aesthetic, making Night Teeth a unique addition to the vampire thriller genre. While it may not reinvent the wheel, the movie provides an entertaining ride with a mix of suspense, action, and romance, leaving room for potential future explorations of its intriguing world.
