Movie review

Daniel Stamm's supernatural horror film Prey for the Devil, starring Jacqueline Byers, Colin Salmon, Lisa Palfrey, Nicholas Ralph, and Ben Cross, is set in the United States. In the movie, a nun who undergoes exorcist training in the Roman Catholic Church battles demonic possession. The movie was released in October 2022, and critics gave it unfavorable reviews. The Catholic Church reopens exorcism schools to instruct priests in the Ritual of Exorcism in response to an increase in demonic possessions across the globe.

Even though nuns are not allowed to perform exorcisms, Father Quinn accepts Sister Ann's request to be trained because of her abilities, which include empathy for those who have been possessed by demons. Along with her fellow student Father Dante, Ann is thrust onto the spiritual front line as they fight for Natalie's soul. Ann believes Natalie is possessed by the same demon that plagued Ann's mentally ill mother years ago.

Despite some staff members' objections and certain priests' delight, Ann attends lessons. She starts experiencing unsettling occurrences, including unsettling sights and recollections as well as an old, possessed patient tormenting her and dancing with her against her will while she is imprisoned in his chamber. Ann persisted in her inquiry, though, utilizing Dante to sift through obscure archives and look into the lives of both a woman who was dismissed from the institute and "terminal patients" who were guaranteed to pass away.

Ann appears to be successful in helping Dante's problematic sister get exorcised. The Cardinal and the head of the school, however, inform her the following morning that the woman committed herself. Ann regrettably decides that in response to the tragedy, she will return to her old convent. Dante, who happens to be passing by, informs the students that Natalie, who had recovered and left the school, has relapsed and would probably be taken to the Vatican as a "terminal case" because of it. In order to exorcise Natalie, they sneak inside the school together.

Ann, who gave Natalie up for adoption years ago when she was pregnant as a teenager, is stunned to learn that Natalie is actually her own daughter. Natalie is possessed by demons as a result of her abandonment pain. The demon eventually lets Natalie go free but takes possession of Ann. Ann sinks into a sizable pool of holy water and eventually frees herself from the demon by battling through the pain of her turbulent past.

She receives an academic fellowship to the Vatican as a prize from the school administration, but while riding in a cab, Ann discovers that the driver is the elderly guy who had harassed her while under the influence of the devil. The cab stops in the street, and the woman who was let out of the institute stands there and looks at her with a menacing expression. The driver snarls and lunges at Ann, who defends herself with a crucifix.
