Houston, Texas – A late-night home invasion attempt turned deadly on
Friday after a vigilant homeowner shot and killed two armed men in ski masks
who falsely claimed to be police officers.
According to the Houston Police
Department, the incident occurred around 11 p.m. in
southeast Houston, when two masked suspects knocked on the door, pretending to
serve a warrant.
The men wore bulletproof vests,
badges around their necks, and ski masks, trying to convince the
homeowner they were legitimate officers. However, the homeowner became
suspicious after noticing there were no police cars, flashing lights,
or backup units outside his home.
Lt. Amber Khan told,
“The suspects claimed they had a warrant, but
it was just two masked men with no police vehicles or signals of authority. The
homeowner had a Ring camera and realized something wasn’t right.”
Moments later, the suspects opened fire
through the front door, spraying bullets into the house. In self-defense, the
homeowner fired back, fatally shooting both men. Despite officers performing
CPR on arrival, both suspects were pronounced dead at the scene.
Inside the home at the time of the shooting
were the homeowner’s wife and child, who were left shaken but
unharmed.
Lt. Khan added,
“Thankfully, no one else was hurt. The family
is safe, though deeply rattled.”
The suspects have not yet been identified,
but investigators believe they were in their 20s or 30s.
Detective Kyle Stringer issued a public warning:
“Real officers do not wear ski masks. Expect
marked police vehicles, flashing lights, sirens, and often loud verbal
announcements. These are signs of a legitimate police presence.”
Authorities continue to investigate the case
and urge residents to remain vigilant about impersonators.
