"NEWTOPIA" - KOREAN ROMANTIC FANTASY ZOMBIE COMEDY TV SERIES TEASER REVIEW

 

"Newtopia" is an upcoming South Korean romantic fantasy zombie comedy television series set to premiere on February 7, 2025. The series will be available for streaming on Coupang Play in South Korea and on Amazon Prime Video in selected regions. 

The narrative centers on Lee Jae-yoon, portrayed by Park Jeong-min, a soldier grappling with the uncertainties of his future as he begins his military service. His girlfriend, Kang Young-ju, played by Jisoo of BLACKPINK, is a recent university graduate embarking on her professional career. Known as the "goddess of engineering" during her college days, Young-ju faces challenges in understanding her emotions, especially after suggesting a break in their relationship due to the strains of distance and time. Their personal struggles are abruptly overshadowed by a sudden zombie outbreak that engulfs South Korea. Amidst the ensuing chaos, both Jae-yoon and Young-ju navigate the perilous streets of Seoul, teeming with the undead, in a desperate bid to reunite and survive.

Park Jeong-min as Lee Jae-yoon is a soldier confronting the challenges of military life and the unexpected horrors of a zombie apocalypse.

Jisoo as Kang Young-ju is a newly employed professional striving to find her place in the world while dealing with the complexities of love and survival.

Im Sung-jae as In-ho, is Jae-yoon's subordinate in the military, whose role becomes pivotal as events unfold.

Hong Seo-hee as Oh Soo-jung is an employee in a VIP lounge, whose circumstances intertwine with the main characters.

Tang Jun-sang as Sam-soo is a steadfast supporter of Young-ju, providing assistance during their trials.

Lee Hak-joo as Sung Tae-sik is the CEO of Alex Entertainment, whose involvement adds depth to the storyline.

Kim Jun-han as Aaron Park is a hotel manager situated near Jae-yoon's military unit, playing a significant role in the narrative.

Directed by Yoon Sung-hyun, known for his work on "Bleak Night" in (2010) and "Time to Hunt" in (2020), "Newtopia" boasts a compelling creative team. The script is co-written by Han Jin-won, acclaimed for "Parasite" in (2019), and Ji Ho-jin, recognized for "A Shop for Killers" in (2024). The series is produced by Bound Entertainment and Billions Plus and is adapted from the novel "Influenza" by Han Sang-woon. 

"Newtopia" distinguishes itself by blending elements of romance, fantasy, and zombie comedy, offering a fresh take on the popular zombie genre. The series delves into the dynamics of a couple's relationship tested by both personal decisions and external calamities.
