"DARK NUNS" - MOVIE TRAILER REVIEW / KOREAN SUPERNATURAL THRILLER MOVIE

 

"Dark Nuns" is an upcoming South Korean supernatural thriller directed by Kwon Hyeok-jae, scheduled for release on January 24, 2025. The film serves as a spin-off to the 2015 movie "The Priests" and delves into the narrative of two nuns who undertake a forbidden ritual to save a boy possessed by a powerful evil spirit.

 

The story centers on Sister Yunia, portrayed by Song Hye-kyo, a fearless nun determined to rescue a young boy named Hee-jun, played by Moon Woo-jin, who is afflicted by demonic possession. Assisting her is Sister Michaela, enacted by Jeon Yeo-been, a fellow nun who, despite her initial skepticism, becomes intrigued by Yunia's resolve and decides to support her in the perilous endeavor. The narrative explores their journey as they confront their own fears and beliefs while battling the malevolent force threatening Hee-jun's life.

Song Hye-kyo as Sister Yunia, she is a courageous nun willing to confront forbidden practices to save an innocent life.

Jeon Yeo-been as Sister Michaela, initially doubtful, she becomes a pivotal ally in the mission to exorcise the evil spirit.

Lee Jin-wook as Father Paolo,  A priest and psychiatrist who believes in medical treatment over exorcism, adding a layer of conflict to the narrative.

Moon Woo-jin as Hee-jun, a young boy tormented by a powerful evil spirit, whose plight serves as the catalyst for the unfolding events. 

 

Directed by Kwon Hyeok-jae, known for his work on "Troubleshooter" in(2010) and "Count" in (2023), "Dark Nuns" is produced by Zip Cinema and distributed by Next Entertainment World. The film was announced as a spin-off to "The Priests," aiming to expand upon the original's universe by focusing on the experiences of nuns in exorcism rituals, a departure from the male-centric perspective of its predecessor.

 

The film has garnered significant attention due to its compelling cast and intriguing premise. An international poster released by Next Entertainment World depicts Sisters Yunia and Michaela guiding the tormented boy, radiating tension and intrigue as they head into unknown danger, igniting curiosity about the intense, forbidden ritual they will undertake to save him.

 

"Dark Nuns" is set to premiere in South Korea on January 24, 2025, with subsequent releases planned in various countries, including Indonesia, Taiwan, and Mongolia on the same day, followed by the Philippines on January 29, and Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, and Laos on February 6. The film has been pre-sold in 160 countries, indicating a strong international interest.
