Tribute to Lance Reddick

Lance Solomon Reddick, an American actor, and musician, also played music. Lance Solomon Reddick was born on June 7, 1962, in Baltimore, Maryland, as the son of Dorothy Gee and Solomon Reddick. He attended Friends School in Baltimore. He continued music studies as a teenager at the Peabody Preparatory Institute and enrolled in a summer music theory and composition course at the Walden School. Reddick majored in classical music composition and earned a Bachelor of Music from the University of Rochester's Eastman School of Music. He moved to Boston, Massachusetts, in the 1980s. Reddick attended the Yale School of Drama in the early 1990s, where he majored in drama and graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in 1994.

He was most well-known for his roles as Chief Irvin Irving in Bosch from 2014 to 2020, Philip Broyles in Fringe from 2008 to 2013, and Cedric Daniels in The Wire from 2002 to 2008. He was most known for playing Charon in the John Wick series from 2014 to 2023 and David Gentry in the 2019 movie Angel Has Fallen.

In addition, he was well-known for playing Matthew Abaddon in Lost from 2004 to 2010 and Albert Wesker in the Netflix series Resident Evil in 2022. He also starred as Detective Johnny Basil on Oz from 1997 to 2003. Martin Hatch from Quantum Break, Sylens from Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, and Commander Zavala from the Destiny series are all video game characters to which he lent the voice and likeness.

In addition to making an appearance in the 2013 suspense film White House Down, Reddick published his debut album Contemplations & Remembrances in 2007. He co-produced the YouTube web series DR0NE, for which he received co-producer credit.

In 2014, Reddick portrayed Charon in the action-thriller film John Wick, and he has since appeared in both of the film's sequels. In July 2021, it was announced that Reddick would reprise his role as John Wick in John Wick: Chapter 4. He voiced Commander Zavala in the 2014 and 2017 video games Destiny and Destiny 2.

He began as Chief Irvin Irving in the Amazon Prime series Bosch in 2014. Comparing his three significant roles as police commanders, Reddick claimed that Daniels, his character from The Wire, is "a cop at heart", while Broyles, his Fringe character, is "a soldier", and Irving "is the classic politician". In television ads for Cree LED Bulbs, Reddick served as the spokesperson.

Reddick received a role in the 2016 post-apocalyptic horror movie The Domestics. Afterward, Reddick starred in Monster Party, a 2018 horror thriller. In the 2017 video game Horizon Zero Dawn, he also provided the voice for the character Sylens, and in the follow-up, Horizon Forbidden West, he returned to the role. Reddick had an appearance in the 2021 movie Godzilla vs. Kong. Albert Wesker was a character that Reddick played in the live-action Resident Evil Netflix series in 2022.

In the upcoming series Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the Disney+ adaptation of the same-named book series, he will make a posthumous appearance as the Greek god Zeus.

Reddick was said to have been discovered dead on March 17, 2023, in his Los Angeles home. Reddick's spokesperson corroborated the information, claiming that Reddick had "gone away abruptly" that morning due to "natural causes".

His co-stars from The Wire, Wendell Pierce, and Isiah Whitlock Jr., as well as the show's creator, David Simon, and his John Wick co-stars, Keanu Reeves and Ian McShane, all paid tribute to his memory.

Destiny and Destiny 2 players honored their respects by visiting Commander Zavala, who was voiced by Reddick in The Tower and saluting him or by sitting side by side in silence.
