“Operation
Fortune:
Ruse de Guerre”
Movie Review
Guy Ritchie's 2023 spy action-comedy Operation Fortune: Ruse de
Guerre was written by Ritchie, Ivan Atkinson, and Marn Davies. Hugh Grant,
Aubrey Plaza, Josh Hartnett, Cary Elwes, Bugzy Malone, and Jason Statham are
among the cast members. In the movie, Statham plays a spy named Orson Fortune
who has to find a stolen high-tech item before an arms dealer sells it to the
highest bidder.
A group of Ukrainian organized crime figures successfully steal
"The Handle," a device with a value of billions of dollars. Before
billionaire arms dealer Greg Simmonds can sell the Handle to the highest
bidder, the British government recruits Nathan Jasmine to collect it. In order
to manage a squad that includes Sarah Fidel, JJ Davies, and others, Nathan
employs super-spy Orson Fortune. The group sets off towards Madrid in search of
the courier who will deliver the hard disk holding the data from the Handle.
An adversary of Nathan's who appears to have been recruited to
recover the Handle halts their quest. First, Sarah is able to copy the data on
the hard disk. When the crew learns that Simmonds intends to throw a charity
event in Cannes, they decide to infiltrate it by extorting Danny Francesco,
Simmonds' favorite actor, into helping them divert Simmonds. Danny is urged by
Simmonds to spend some time at his Antalya, Turkey, property. Orson poses as a
robber in order to break into the Ukrainian mafia's home and access their
systems. The Handle is a sophisticated AI that can be programmed to circumvent
any security system in the globe, the British government informs Nathan.
The team leaves for Turkey after learning that the Handle
exchange will take place in Antalya. Simmonds displays his artifacts to Danny
as Orson and JJ locate one of Simmonds' spies within the Turkish government.
Before Mike and his men intervene, kill virtually everyone, and seize the
Handle, Orson, posing as Simmonds' attorney, attends the trade and completes
it, proving that Mike went rogue and was acting independently.
Simmonds is prepared to assist despite the issues the team has
given him because Mike stealing the Handle lost Simmonds his commission. He
explains that Trent and Arnold, two biotech billionaires who have been
stockpiling gold and want to use the money to bring about a global financial
crisis, were the buyers. Orson confronts them and gets the Handle back.
The group receives an additional work offer in Doha but chooses
to take a vacation instead. Orson informs them that Danny's newest movie was
paid for with the money obtained from the robbery at the Ukrainians' villa.
