Raangi is an action thriller film directed by M. Saravanan and produced
by Allirajah Subaskaran in Tamil. Trisha plays the lead in the film. C Sathya
composed the film's music, while K. A. Sakthivel and M Subarak handled
cinematography and editing, respectively.
Trisha's Thaiyal Nayagi is a fearless investigative journalist who
works for an online news portal and is dedicated to promoting equality,
democracy, and justice. A special police task force arrests her for the murder
of Police Inspector Krishnamurthy (John Mahendran), but she is rescued by a
team of FBI and CBI agents. Thaiyal first encounters Inspector Krishnamurthy
during a routine police check and records him making inappropriate comments,
which she later posts online. The inspector retaliates by sending goons after
Thaiyal, but she stands firm. Thaiyal's niece, Sushmitha, played by Anaswara
Rajan, admires and aspires to be like her aunt. She is unaware, however, that
she is being blackmailed by a college boy who threatens to release private
videos of her. Thaiyal discovers the situation and confronts the boy,
discovering that a fake Facebook account in Sushmitha's name was created to
communicate with boys. Thaiyal gains access to the phony account and discover
that the girl behind it is receiving messages from middle-aged men. Thaiyal
lures these men into a hotel room as Sushmitha and beats them up, warning them
not to repeat their behavior.
Thaiyal discovers
that Aalim, one of the men who messaged Sushmitha, did not show up for their
meeting. Aalim is revealed to be a Libyan terrorist whose organization is
wanted by US authorities. Thaiyal discovers this after linking a photo sent by
Aalim with news footage. Thaiyal requests a photo of Minister Kumaravel Rajan
engaging in illegal dealings with terrorists in order to locate Aalim. Thaiyal
posted the photo online, prompting Indian authorities to execute the minister.
Abu Farooq, Aalim's superior, discovers the photo and forces Aalim to reveal
Sushmitha's location. Thaiyal responds that she is from India, prompting Abu to
dispatch attackers after Sushmitha, who are apprehended by FBI agents. Abu
prepares to execute Aalim but is ambushed by the military. Aalim saves Abu's
life, and the latter temporarily spares him. Aalim asks Sushmitha to create
another ID for him to text and later confesses his romantic feelings to her.
Thaiyal is arrested
one day by the hate-filled Krishnamurthy and texts Aalim about it. Without
Thaiyal's knowledge, Aalim dispatches assassins to kill Krishnamurthy. Thaiyal
continues to converse with Aalim, learning about his background as a Libyan
terrorist. Thaiyal starts sympathizing with Aalim and sends him pictures of her
daily life. Aalim travels to Chennai to meet Sushmitha, but Thaiyal intervenes
and is apprehended by the special task force. Thaiyal is forced by the FBI to
persuade Aalim to agree to a meeting in Libya. Thaiyal and Sushmitha travel to
Libya with the agents. A local taxi driver informs Aalim of Sushmitha's arrival
in Libya, which fills him with joy.
Unbeknownst to Aalim, Abu and his associates have devised a plan of
vengeance in which they intend to eliminate Sushmitha, Thaiyal, and the
accompanying agents. Thaiyal, on the other hand, fights back tenaciously. Aalim
arrives and kills Abu's men to protect Sushmitha, who has no idea who he is.
Thaiyal tries to assist Aalim in escaping, but he does not understand her
language. Abu locates Thaiyal but is killed by FBI agents. The agent's leader
orders his men to murder Sushmitha in order to draw out Aalim, who sacrifices himself
to protect her. As Aalim breathes his last, he expresses his love for Sushmitha
and hands her a talisman she had previously given to a taxi driver. Thaiyal is
devastated by Aalim's death and weeps bitterly. After that, she and Sushmitha
safely return to India, where she writes a book about Aalim's life.
