“Death Wish 3”

Movie Review

The third and final installment in the Death Wish film series, Death Wish 3 is an American action movie edited and directed by Michael Winner. It features Charles Bronson as the vigilante killer Paul Kersey, who engages in street-punk gang warfare while receiving covert assistance from a nearby NYPD lieutenant named Ed Lauter.

The movie's plot is as follows: Paul Kersey has been operating as a vigilante around the nation in various cities for about a year following the events of the previous movie. He visits his Korean War comrade Charley, who is attacked by a gang in his East New York flat, after making his first trip back to New York City after being barred for what he did five years prior. The noise is heard by the neighbors, who then phone the police. Charley passes away in Paul's arms as he arrives. Paul is detained after the police mistake him for the murderer. Police Chief Richard Shriker recognizes Paul as "Mr. Vigilante" at the police station. Before Paul is brought to a holding cell, Shriker sets the law. Manny Fraker, the boss of the group that killed Charley, is housed in the same cell. He and Paul get into a fight, and Manny is then let go. Daily reports on the rise in crime are sent to the police. Paul accepts Shriker's promise to kill all the troublemakers as long as he alerts Shriker to any gang activity he learns about so the cops can stage a bust and get some press. In the midst of a gang turf war, Paul moves into Charley's flat. The older inhabitants in the building are scared of Manny's group. Bennett Cross, a World War II veteran and Charley's friend, Mr. and Mrs. Kaprov, an elderly Jewish couple, and Rodriguez and his wife Maria, a young Hispanic couple, are among them. Paul purchases a used automobile as bait following a number of brutal robberies. Paul shoots two gang members with his Colt Cobra when they attempt to break into the automobile. Maria is defended by Paul from the gang twice, but he is unable to help her a third time. She is attacked and raped; she eventually succumbs to her injuries in the hospital.

Kersey buys a Wildey hunting pistol as a replacement weapon. He spends the afternoon handloading ammunition for it with Bennett. When the Giggler takes his Nikon camera, he tests the gun. The community cheers Paul as Shriker and the police claim the victory. A gang member is also thrown from a roof by Kersey. Kersey offers to take Kathryn Davis, the public defender, out to dinner because she is leaving the city. Kathryn is waiting in his car when Manny knocks her out and pushes the vehicle into oncoming traffic. Kathryn is killed when it crashes with another vehicle and explodes. Shriker takes Kersey into protective custody because he thinks he is in too much trouble. Bennett tries to exact revenge after his taxi business is destroyed, but his machine gun jams. The group renders Bennett helpless. Shriker transports Kersey to the hospital, where he eventually makes his getaway after Bennett gives him the location of a second machine gun. Rodriguez and Kersey amass weaponry. Before they run out of ammunition, they continue to slay a large number of the offenders. As Manny brings in reinforcements, other neighbors start to fight back. Shriker makes the decision to lend a hand, and Kersey and he eliminate most of the gang together. To get additional ammunition, Kersey returns to the flat, but Manny spots him there before. Arriving first, Shriker shoots Manny, but not before being shot in the arm. Manny gets to his feet and points his rifle at the two men as Kersey phones for an ambulance. Kersey kills Manny with a mail-ordered M72 LAW rocket launcher as Shriker diverts his attention. When the rest of the gang arrives on the scene, they discover Manny's burning remains. The group recognizes they've lost when they're surrounded by irate mobs of neighbors and leaves the area. Shriker gives Kersey a head start while the neighbors applaud in joy and police sirens can be heard in the distance. Kersey gives a grateful nod before launching.
