“Home Coming”
Movie Review
“Home Coming”, is a Chinese drama film directed by Rao Xiaozhi starring Zhang Yi, Wang Junkai and Yin Tao. Story of the film is two unarmed Chinese diplomats delving into a rebel force-controlled area in the war-wrecked Republic of Noumea to lead 125 chinese citizens safely back to china.
The airport in the capital Libutis was closed as violent
protests against the president and the country descended into civil war.
However, the Chinese embassy manages to evacuate
citizens on the last plane to have landed before the closure. Giving up their seats to two Taiwan evacuees, foreign
ministry personnel Zong Dawei played by Zhang Yi and the young Cheng Lang played
by Wang Junkai stay behind in the country and drive back to the capital with
two embassy staffers, first secretary Zhang Ning role done by Zhang Zixian and
political attache Yan Xingzhou played by Cheng Taishen. At a roadblock,
they are all detained when Cheng Long is seen filming an incident on the
street. They are said to be released if they pay a fine of 500 dinars, which Zong
Dawei pays against the protests of his colleagues. As they walk down the street
a bomb explodes; With minor injuries, they return to the embassy, where
officers are busy burning the papers. Zong Dawei calls his pregnant wife Chen
Yu, played by Wan Qian, to Beijing; To avoid her distress, he pretended that he
was now safe in Dubai. At a meeting of senior diplomats, Yan Xingshu says the
main evacuation route is Terna's eastern sea route; But first, the two
employees must solve a problem at Noumea's western border, where Chinese
construction workers have had their passports stolen and cannot leave the
country through the border exit. He sends Zhang Ning and Cheng Long along with Wadir,
the local driver, to fix it. Although he speaks fluent Arabic, Zhang Dawei
avoids his old friend Zhang Ning from going to work because his wife is about
to give birth. But when Zhong Ning was shot dead that night following an
outbreak of street violence, Zhong Dawei took his place the next morning. After
arriving at the border checkpoint, Zong Dawei gradually talks Hassan, a senior
official there, into preparing more than a thousand temporary exit visas for
Chinese workers so they can leave Noumea to Tunisia and fly home from there.
But at the last moment, Zong Dawei goes back to Noumea with Cheng Lang and Wadir
to rescue Zhang Ning's wife Bai Hua, played by Yin Dao, and the car breaks down
in the war zone of Saibulata. When they finally reach her, they find a very
different situation than they imagined.
