BRET HITMAN HART – THE LEGEND IN WORLD WRESTLING
Bret
Sargent Hart was born on July 2, 1957 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada into a Hart
wrestling family. He is the eighth child of wrestling patriarch Stu Hart and
his wife Helen. He is of Greek descent through his maternal grandmother and of
Irish descent through his maternal grandfather. His father was mainly of Ulster
Scots descent, but also of Scottish and English descent. A member of the Hart
wrestling family and a second-generation wrestler, he has an amateur wrestling
background, wrestling at Ernest Manning High School and Mount Royal College. A
major international attraction in professional wrestling, he is credited with
changing the concept of mainstream North-American professional wrestling by
bringing technical in-ring performance to the forefront in the early 1990s.
Hart is widely regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all
time; Hart used the nickname "Hitman" for most of his career.
Bret
is a dual citizen of Canada and the United States, as his mother, Helen, was
born in New York. Bret has stated that he is North American and is equally
proud of his American and Canadian nationality. His grandfather was
long-distance runner Harry Smith. Bret grew up in a household with eleven
siblings, seven brothers Smith, Bruce, Keith, Wayne, Dean, Ross and Owen and
four sisters Ellie, Georgia, Alison and Diana. As a child, he was very close to
his older brother Dean, who was the closest of all the older brothers and was
three years older than him. Together, the two would often fight with Bret’s two
older sisters, Ellie, two years older, and Georgia, one year older. Bret's
family were non-denominational Christians, but he and his siblings were
baptized by a local Catholic priest.
Bret
spent most of his childhood in the Hart family mansion owned by his father.
Once his father tied a bear named Terrible Ted under a building, all of the
bear's teeth were removed, and Bret would sometimes let the bear lick ice cream
off his toes. A good way to keep them clean.
