Movie Review
“Where Eagles Dare” a 1968 war film directed by Brian G. Hutton, starring Richard Burton, Clint Eastwood and Mary Urie. It follows a joint British-American special operations team of paratroopers they raid a castle and is filmed on location in Austria and Bavaria. It was filmed on Panavision using the Metro color process and distributed by MGM. Alistair MacLean wrote his first screenplay while writing the novel of the same name. Both were commercial successes.
Featuring some of the best filmmakers of the time, the film is considered a classic. Hollywood stuntman Yakima Connaught was the second unit director and shot most of the action sequences; British stuntman Alf Joint doubled as Burton in several scenes, including a fight atop a cable car; Award-winning conductor and composer Ron Goodwin wrote the film score; Future Oscar nominee Arthur Ibbetson worked on the cinematography.
