‘Missing’ is a Japanese film, titled ‘Sakazu’. A solid and often passionate drama, the directed by Shinzo Katayama, who co-wrote the screenplay with Kazuhisa Kotera and Ryo Takada. The story is layered with mystery, moral ambiguity, and characters that don't appear at first. The film doesn't offer easy answers when it comes to its characters and situations, but 'Missing' certainly makes for a fascinating to watch with twists and turns, catchy themes and depth.
'Missing' begins with a teenager Kaede Harada, played by Aoi Ito who is called to pick up her father Santoshi, played by Jiro Sato, after he is caught shoplifting. Santoshi has been going downhill for some time now. After the death of his wife, he is in mourning, his business is failing and he is in debt. Santoshi, however, suggests he find the serial killer known as No-Name, role done by Hiroya Shimizu to win the reward money and get their life back on track. Kaede doesn't take Santoshi's plan seriously, but when she wakes up the next day, her father is nowhere to be found and she goes looking for him.
